Afternoon Tea at The Shala – 4 Workshops

by Apr 5, 2016

Afternoon Tea at The Shala is a series of short workshops for beginners and regular practitioners who want to refresh their base knowledge of the practice.

The afternoon will be divided into two parts in line with Astanga Yoga Philosophy: 1% theory, 99% practice.

Theory (1%): We will look at some most important yogic scriptures that have been used as the base for Astanga Yoga as we know it today, such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and touch the concept of Tristana: Ujjayi Pranayama, Bandhas, Drishti.

Practice (99%): We will focus on the most fundamental postures in each segment of the Primary Series, reminding ourselves of the importance of proper alignment, breath, bandha and drishti as we float through the sequence of this wonderful practice.

Led practice: A half primary series counting.

Afternoon tea: A vegan meal and warm beverages will be provided. Most food is organic.

Dates:
Saturday, 14 May    1pm – 4pm    Standing asanas
Saturday, 28 May    1pm – 4pm    Seated asanas
Saturday, 11 June    1pm – 4pm    Backbend & Inversions

Teacher:  Eva Duric
Eva’s Astanga yoga journey began in 2008 in Ljubljana, Slovenia with Anja Nikolov and Luigi Moreno. Since then she has studied with many teachers. In 2011 and 2013 she traveled to Kovalam, India to study with Lino Miele on month-long trips. Eva moved to New Zealand in February 2014 where she currently practices with Mike Berghan and Peter Sanson. Her background in massage, her fascination for tristana (Ujjayi, drishti, bandha), and healing through touch, makes practicing with her a special experience.
